If you’ve ever tried getting an entire extended family together in one place—let alone dressed and ready for pictures—you know it can feel a little wild. But the moment this group stepped onto the sand at Mantoloking Beach, all that prep-work stress just melted away.

There is a quiet, gentle charm to Mantoloking. Without the noise or crowds of a busy boardwalk, it feels like you have the whole ocean to yourself. From the second we started, this session was less about "stand here and look at the camera" and so much more about enjoying a gorgeous summer evening together.

Keeping Things Easy, Fun, and Playful

When you’re working with multiple generations—from grandparents down to energetic little cousins—the secret to great photos is keeping things moving so nobody gets bored or stiff.

We kept the energy high and the pressure low:

  • The Big Family Hug: We got the full-group shot done right at the beginning while everyone was fresh and excited.
  • Grandparents & Grandkids: There is nothing quite like the joy on a grandparent's face when they’re surrounded by all their favorite little people. These were easily some of the sweetest, most genuine moments of the night.
  • Mini-Sessions for Each Unit: Each sibling group took turns stepping up for quick, updated family portraits, giving everyone else a chance to relax in the sand.
  • Playing in the Waves: Once the "must-have" poses were out of the way, everyone kicked off their sandals and headed for the water. The best shots of the night came from kids chasing the tide, siblings cracking jokes, and everyone just being themselves.


Simple, Coastal Styling

This family completely nailed the vibe. Instead of wearing matching uniforms, they chose a soft, breezy color palette—creamy whites, warm tans, subtle blues, and light linens. The soft fabrics caught the ocean wind beautifully, and going barefoot gave everything an effortless, timeless feel that matched the dunes and sea grass.
